The states go head to head - the winners and the losers!

The Australian Tourism Leaderboard (ATL) is an independent, political spin-free guide to how the states are doing in tourism. Its an open and honest appraisal of performance over time. While a week in politics maybe a long time, a year in tourism isn't long enough to judge marketing tactics or successful strategies. Rampant short-termism and the political art of reporting only "good" numbers, often masks important successes and challenges the industry needs to know and should know - so here is the ATL!


The ATL looks at two key determinants of destination success over time - growth and share - across three critical metrics, visitors, nights and spend. By measuring the states across these six (2x3) measures and including the national average, the tourism leaderboard can now rank state  performance. 


Domestic Holiday

The first leaderboard is for total domestic holiday visitors. By removing VFR and business etc, a clearer view of tourism and
